Cycling at lake Velence

The distance is 30 km, the route is relatively flat, apart from one small hill. As one of the most popular cycling routes in Hungary, it’s a pleasant ride and can be a good start for newbies. The cycling route is protected from cars for the most part.

We will go together from Budapest to the lake (Gárdony train station) by train, where we are going to rent bicycles. You will have the chance to go to a supermarket at the beginning. We will have a few shorter stops and one longer stop in the last third of the trip. The longer stop will be at a beach where we can have a pizza at a restaurant at the lake side.

We will order the pizza in advance, so you can write what kind of pizza you would like in the form. You can choose your pizza on this website: https://www.sakaltanya.hu/

You can buy your train tickets when we meet on the spot, but to make the process faster, you can also buy your train tickets in advance on https://jegy.mav.hu/ or in the “Vonatinfó” mobile app.
You should select “Budapest-Déli” as the starting point and “Gárdony” as the destination of your trip. The train departs at 10:10am on April 10th. You may add a 50% student discount if you have a student ID.

COSTS:
- 1300 HUF for train tickets both ways if you have student ID with you
- 2500 HUF bike rental price
- price of extra food and drinks
- price of pizza at the long stop (optional)
Please bring at least 5000 HUF extra cash with you in case anything extraordinary happens. For example, deposit for bikes, extra price for bicycle lock.

What to bring: Water, sandwiches, convenient clothes.
