About ESN

First of all, my name is Fehér Gergő. I’m a student here at BME, and the current president of ESN BME. ESN (Erasmus Student Network) is a voluntary student organization, helping exchange students in social and practical integration process throughout the semester. This is mainly done through activities in the university, which include cultural and social events such as trips to various places within the country, language projects, international food fests and last, but not least, parties.

We will be your mentors, helping with anything you might need. :)

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us: [email protected]. We’ll gladly be of help.

This is the official webpage of ESN BME: www.esn.bme.hu

This is the official Facebook page of ESN BME: www.facebook.com/esnbme

There is a lot of useful info about everything you could be interested in, and also all of our events will be announced here.

We’ve also created an official Facebook group for you: https://www.facebook.com/groups/398942033772630

This is the official one. Join right now! Please, take into consideration that every Erasmus student joining the group has to get accepted by our mentors and this approval might take a few days.

If you want to receive Facebook invitations for the events organised by us,
please add our program coordinator to your friends: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100014942078841

(Due to the high number of exchange students this semester and to the group management regulations of Facebook, inviting everybody from the group won’t be possible, unless you are added as a friend)

About Orientation Week (30.01.2017-03.02.2017)

1) Monday

We will start with an Official Opening Ceremony where you will hear some short introductories (for example from the Central Academic Office, and from me about ESN).

Next you will do the REGISTRATION. Bring all the documents they asked for in the official admission letter (sent by the Central Academic Office), and don’t forget to bring your ID and some ID-size photos(appr 3cmx4cm). (Those who will be late for this registration can register at the Central Academic Office during office hours. Please be aware that those who will attend courses cannot miss more than two weeks of classes.)

After the registration, there will be the Meeting Your Mentors program. This program is for getting to know each other better. In smaller groups, you'll be guided around the university by our mentors who will show you the most important offices/parts of BME. The tour will end in a nearby pub with a beer or a coffee, where your mentors will give you some useful information.

2) Tuesday *

From tuesday on, you’ll have the chance to sign up for the upcoming Pub Crawl as well as for the Freshmen Camp. We’ll also help you in case you have any non-academic questions (in case of academic ones, the CEO can help you) and we’ll help you registering you devices for the BME Wi-Fi network in case you have difficulties.

In the evening, you are welcome to the Get-2-Know party, which is a kind of a challenge game. You will be put into teams and will go through different tasks that involves some drinking, too. It's a lot of fun every year and it’s also free of charge!!! When we are finished, we are going to start the all-night long Welcome Party.

3) Wednesday *

In the morning, we organize a Flat Searching event for those who don’t have a place to stay yet.

There will be a Neptun Workshop (Neptun is the university’s student administration system), as well, where our lovely mentors will help you to register in the system (it’s a bit tricky) and teach you how to use it. We will show you how to register your MAC address for BME Wi-Fi as well.

4) Thursday *

This is the day of the City Rally. We spend a day visiting some of the most well-known places of Budapest in smaller groups.

5) Friday*

We continue the Flat Searching.

In the evening, there will be a Pub Crawl, where we’ll visit some of the most popular pubs around the university.

* Programs can be changed! We will send you the full schedule with all the meeting times and places in the last week before arrival.

Freshmen Camp(10.02.2017-12.02.2017)

There will also be a so-called Freshmen Camp. It means that we visit the historic city of Eger with 100 Erasmus students which guarantees the biggest party of the week. :)

(I have to warn you, that an unusual amount of students come this year, and places for the events like the Get-2-Know, Pub Crawl and Freshmen Camp are limited. So be prepared, and sign up as soon as possible on the Orientation Week.)

About the Semester

Although the Orientation Week is one of the most eventful weeks of the semester, we also have plenty of events and trips planned for you throughout the semester as well. Here is a list of the semester’s upcoming events. We will give you the full list at the registration.

- Trips to surrounding capitals

- Trips to Hungarian cities

- Parties (Duo Party, UV Party, …)

- Regular Pub Evenings (every Wednesday)

- International Dinner

- Parliament visit

- Hiking

About Accommodation

Unfortunately, our university doesn’t provide any accommodation for students from abroad. Our advice is to look for a flat together with other exchange students because evidently it's cheaper that way. If you don’t know anyone yet, don’t be afraid! You can find roommates in our Facebook group or please, take part in our Flat Searching event during Orientation Week.

You can check out some places on our website, too:

General things: https://www.esn.bme.hu/flats-rent-exchange-students
List of flats: https://www.esn.bme.hu/flats

When you arrive to Budapest, you can stay in a hostel, until you find a permanent place. Here is a list of recommended hostels:
https://www.esn.bme.hu/hostels-temporary-staying
(You should book in advance because places are limited!)
